**A quick reminder that tonight's Kabbalat Shabbat service will begin at 7:30 p.m. as we celebrate Shabbat at Home**
Our hearts have been turned toward the west as we pray for all in the Los Angeles area who have been affected by the wildfires.
This week the Reconstructionist Rabbinical Association sent out an update on some of the Reconstructionist congregations in the area. They remain in close contact with the leadership of Kehillat Israel (KI) in the Pacific Palisades and Malibu Jewish Center and Synagogue (MJCS). Thankfully, both synagogue buildings remain standing, and their Torah scrolls are safe. University Synagogue in Irvine, located 50 miles from the nearest fire, has generously extended an invitation to KI members to join them for services.
To support Kehillat Israel in this moment of crisis, they have established The KI Community Palisades Fire Assistance Fund to provide financial aid to those in the KI community who have suffered catastrophic losses.
Of course, not only the Reconstructionist Jewish community in LA is hurting. There are also relief efforts on the ground that you can support. Here are two suggestions: The American Red Cross
We are also praying for the continued cooperation in the newest developements in the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. May this be one of many steps towards a just and lasting peace. May all hostages be returned home. May we begin the painful and necessary next steps toward healing.
Wishing you a peaceful Shabbat,
Rabbi Janine Jankovitz
