What a difficult week it has been for all of us. In case you missed it, I sent out a message this past week in response to the six hostages who were found murdered last weekend. You can read it here.
Many of us have been wondering where to find comfort and community during this precarious and dark time. Now that Elul, the month before Rosh Hashanah, has officially started, we as a community have been coming together. Thanks to the organizing of Betsy Stern, we meet daily online (except on Shabbat morning) at 9 a.m. to learn a little Torah, chant some of Psalm 27, and hear the shofar blast (thanks to Andy Kauffman for providing this important element for our service!).
Even though the program itself takes no more than fifteen minutes, it has had a tremendous influence on the rest of my day. In each session I have come away feeling inspired spiritually and feeling a greater connection to the people in our wonderful congregation as well as my Jewish tradition.
As any personal trainer would tell you, it takes daily committment to feel the effects of exercise, and so it is with spiritual "workouts." If you have been looking for a "way in" to community, to spiritual transformation, to connection, then this is your official invitation.
Please reach out to me at Rabbi@kehilathanahar.org or to Betsy Stern at Betsystern3@gmail.com for more information.
I hope to see you tonight for Kabbalat Shabbat and tomorrow for Shabbat Zimra.
WIshing you a Shabbat filled with peace and connection,
Rabbi Janine Jankovitz she/her
