Lifecycle Events

Rabbi Janine and KHN are here for you to celebrate all of your lifecycle events.

Baby Namings

Rabbi Janine will work with individual families – and with an experienced mohel for male children – to craft a naming ceremony (and bris) for your child, welcoming him or her into the Jewish people, the KHN community, and the world. Some families choose to have the ceremony at KHN and others at their own home.

B’nei Mitzvah

Once children reach the age of 13, they are considered adults in the Jewish religion.
Members of our religious school are eligible to have a bar mitzvah (boys) or bat mitzvah (girls) should they choose. Only children who are enrolled in Shul School and whose parents are KHN members can have their b'nei mitzvah at KHN.

Confirmation

The final year of formal study for a Jewish child is his/her 10th grade year, also called a Confirmation class. This class is typically small and meets with the Rabbi to explore a variety of topics related to Judaism or to what it means to be Jewish. Our 2018 Confirmation class is pictured with then-Rabbi Diana (far right) and our Education Director at the time Stacey Frank (far left).

Weddings

Rabbi Janine is happy to officiate at the wedding of KHN members at the synagogue or other venues. If requests to officiate come from non-member family and friends of KHN, Rabbi Janine will officiate if time permits and there will be an additional fee.  For weddings at KHN, the Little Shul has a lovely chuppah available for your use.

Shiva

Rabbi Janine is available to officiate at the funerals of KHN members or their close family members. KHN members also organize and lead can help members organize and lead shiva minyans for the bereaved in their homes.

Yarzheits

The yahrzeit is the annual anniversary of the death of a person, based on the Hebrew calendar (although some individuals observe it on the Gregorian calendar). If you do not know the exact day of death, you may choose a date to observe as the yahrzeit. Rabbi Janine will be happy to answer any questions about the historical, mystical, or practical aspects of Yahrzeit.
