Create a Jewish Legacy

About Kehilat HaNahar, The Little Shul by the River

Kehilat HaNahar is an inclusive, participatory, multigenerational Jewish community where we practice principles of Judaism as an evolving religious civilization.  We are committed to educating young and old in Torah, history and culture, and to affirming the ideals of our tradition in worship and in deed.  We have a full range of ritual offerings, a vibrant Shul School for pre and post bnai mitzvah students, adult education offerings, and social action programs serving the greater Delaware RIver Valley.

Our Reconstructionish synagogue was formed in 1994 by our founding Rabbi, Sandy Roth (of blessed memory) with 11 members households to serve the greater New Hope PA and Lambertville NJ area.  Our religious tradition is the reflection of our ancestors' search for meaning, purpose, and value.  In our own search, we are egalitarian, participatory, and open to varying viewpoints and lifestyles.  As an inclusive community we accept all who wish to join us in prayer and study.  We do not turn anyone away due to an inabiity to pay membership dues or tuition fees.

Belonging to the Jewish people comes from behaving on believing through our shared past, and through our communal experience of worship, study, and celebration we affirm our sense of belonging.  We are respectful of traditional Jewish practice but also open to new interpretation and forms of religious expression; tradition has "a vote not a veto".  We believe we are involved in the evolution of Judaism right now and are responsibile for shaping the spiritual and cultural legacy we will leave to future generations.
