An egalitarian home for your Jewish community.
Kehilat HaNahar has a small team of dedicated employees, from our rabbi and education director to our office administrator and bookkeeper.
Led by our Rabbi, Kehilat HaNahar hires only the best and brightest talent to deliver the highest quality service to our members. Our staff, which we consider "a family," is committed to excellence. In addition to Rabbi Diana, Education Director Stacey Frank, and Rabbinic Intern Miriam Geronimus, our professional staff includes Joe Lewin, Office Administrator, and Lina Avalone, Bookkeeper.
Miriam Geronimus is entering her third year at the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College. She is passionate about Judaism’s ability to foster individual and social healing. For the past two years, she has taught the 4th graders in KHN’s Shul School, and she is excited to be expanding her role within the KHN community. Last year, she also led Shabbat services and Torah studies for the Chevrat Torah minyan at Shir Ami in Newtown.
Prior to beginning her rabbinical studies, Miriam graduated cum laude from Princeton in 2012 with a BA in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. Her senior thesis was on the effects of climate change on coral reefs. During college, Miriam also spent three summers studying Yiddish language and culture, and it was during one of these summer programs that she met her husband, Itsik Kittila. At Princeton she founded LGBTQ*J, a student group dedicated to creating space for LGBTQ Jews to explore the intersection of their sexual, gender, and religious identities. Between college and rabbinical school, Miriam lived in Cleveland for three years, where she worked as an aide for a Middle School student with cerebral palsy. She also was very involved with Kol HaLev, Cleveland’s Reconstructionist Community. Among other activities at Kol HaLev, Miriam served on the board, was active on the social justice committee, and coordinated the lay service leader training program.
Miriam currently lives in Philadelphia with her husband, two cats, and turtle. In her free time, she enjoys hiking in the woods and swimming in the ocean.
Joe Lewin has been the Office Administrator at Kehilat HaNahar since September 2016. Prior to coming to KHN Joe served as the temporary office manager at Congregation Beth El in Yardley, where his wife is the Education and Youth Director. He also worked as an interim office manager at Adath Israel Congregation in Lawrenceville, NJ.
Prior to entering synagogue office management he spent nearly two decades as a sports reporter, copy editor, and page designer at The TImes of Trenton. He started at The TImes during his junior year of college at Trenton State College where he earned a BA in English/Journalism.
He currently lives in Lawrenceville with his wife, son, and cat. Having grown up in north Jersey, he is a Yankees and Giants fan, but his son chooses to root for the Phillies and Eagles. Joe is also a Bruce Springsteen fanatic, having attended over 100 Springsteen concerts. His tastes lean toward Americana/folk as other favorites include Josh Ritter, Slaid Cleaves, Rod Picott, Dan Bern, and Roger Clyne & the Peacemakers; but he also likes classic rock, especially Bob Dylan, John Fogerty (CCR), and the Kinks.
